Mission Statement:
ZIMCET endeavors to build an empowered, peaceful society, through advocacy and lobby meetings and campaigns, drama, seminars, work-shops, focus group discussions, radio and TV programmes, information sharing etc so as to actively participate in issues that affect people's lives.
Our work
ZIMCET works through peace committees and animators (community volunteers) at both district and constituency level. The committees have representatives of various stakeholders such as political parties, traditional leaders, civic organizations, women and youths. To date the organization has a total of 72 peace committees around Zimbabwe.
The work of peace committees includes:
- Carrying out peace education at community level
- Mobilizing communities to discuss issues around peace and development
- Creating a platform for dialogue at community level
- Representing different interests during discussions on peace and development
- Collectively identifying areas of conflict, mediation and managing or resolving the conflict at community level
- Engaging local authorities on behalf of communities on issues related to peace and development.
ZIMCET also carries out civic education on key democratic processes such as elections and human rights education in its various areas of operation.
