Harare -20 March 2015,the Church and Civil society Forum (CCSF), a collaborative platform of the church and civil society organizations, whose mandate is to advocate for the development of a national policy and legal framework for peace and reconciliation, applauds the Parliament of Zimbabwe for moving a step closer towards the operationalization of the National Peace and Reconciliation and Commission (NPRC) through the short listing and invitations of potential Commissioners for interviews on 25 March 2015 . CCSF remains hopeful that the process will result in the most benefiting men and women being appointment to the NPRC. We envisage people of unquestionable characters and integrity in issues of promotion of peace, those who will effectively represent the cause for which the NPRC was establish for.
CCSF regards this important move by the Parliament of Zimbabwe as a welcome step towards realising the gains on peace, security and development through the full implementation of the key peace provisions which are enshrined in the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which amongst others provides for the setting up of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.
The NPRC is one of Zimbabwe’s most notable post independence efforts to ensure post conflict justice, healing and reconciliation. CCSF has for the past five (5) years worked with other stakeholders tirelessly towards the establishment and operationalisation of the NPRC framework. The CCSF is however concerned with delays in the enactment of an enabling Law to operationalize the NPRC in view of its ten year life span as provided for in the Constitution.
Therefore the CCSF continues to urge the Minister of National Healing, Hon Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, the Attorney General, and the Parliament of Zimbabwe to speedily enact an enabling Act to give life to the NPRC.
CCSF affirms its commitment to promoting peace, reconciliation, national healing and integration in Zimbabwe.
