The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum (the Forum), based in Harare, Zimbabwe, and the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IJR), based in Cape Town, South Africa will co-host the Second International Conference on Transitional Justice from 9th – 11th October 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The theme of the conference is “Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commissions: the Best Practices”. Participants to the conference will be drawn from leading academics and practitioners in the field of Transitional Justice (TJ); former truth and reconciliation Commissioners from selected countries; national and international NGOs; traditional leaders; churches; security sector; the labour movement; business community; the media; government departments; and development partners.
The objectives of the Conference are:
1. To provide platform for stakeholders to contribute to the establishment of a credible and effective National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) capable of fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
2. To set out the minimum expectations of the people of Zimbabwe regarding truth, post-conflict justice, healing and reconciliation as enshrined in the new constitution.
3. To provide training for government and CSOs in advocacy, engagement and responses to practical challenges and issues emerging from NPRC
