Since the 1990s, there has been increased advocacy amongst peace practitioners and scholars alike for the adoption of traditional mechanisms in transitional justice. Apparently this position highlights the inadequacies of western transitional justice models and limitations of what the state and civil society is able to do to spearhead the transitional justice agenda in post conflict Africa.
